Almost finished…

Remember when I said that Adeline says Sylvain looks like a little Ewok? Well, tonight after his bath he was wearing his bath robe. After  supper he was walking around and I put his hood up (there are two little ears on it). Then he really seemed like an Ewok! And he had on these socks that have rubber stuff on the bottom to prevent slipping, so you could hear him walking around. You’d hear him walking and then suddenly it would speed up. Then you knew he was near the play room about to jump on the bean-bag chair!

Other that some grocery shopping for this weekend, all I did today was read. Therefore I’m almost done my book. It won’t take me long to finish it tomorrow. One more classic under me belt!

Little Monster

Today’s title is again in reference to Sylvain. This morning before we left he was walking around grunting and growling and Adeline called him a little monster. It was adorable. He’s getting much more confident on his feet.

I tried to take a little nap today, you know to rest so that I don’t get sick and not rest because I’m already sick. Bastien’s got a sore throat and I guess his best friend at school is home with something serious, but we don’t know the English translation so I don’t know what it is. I’ve felt the sort of sore throat the last couple of days, but I am drinking tea and eating lots of clementines to try to prevent anything before it starts. Especially because of this weekend!

I started a To Do List of the things I need to do this week before I go. I’ve got to get my act together. If I can manage to get everything, or most of the stuff done the posts this weekend may be long, but they should be interesting. They would fall under the ‘Touristy Goings On’ category.

Bastien got a new hat and gloves; both Flash McQueen (a.k.a. Lightning McQueen). Not gonna lie…I like Flash better than Lightning. At least now I do. I didn’t when I first got here, but Bastien’s always Flash McQueen this and Flash McQueen that. It’s easier for little kids to say anyway. It’s a little harder to spot Bastien now in the crowd of kids after school because his hat is black and red instead of bright green.

Zombie baby

At lunch today Sylvain was still a little sleepy. He had just woken up from a nap. He’s starting to make these growling, animal-like noises. I think he’s trying to copy Bastien because Bastien makes those kinds of noises all the time. They’re hilarious coming from Sylvain. At one point he was growling and had his arms up and out in front of him and he reminded me of a zombie. The cutest zombie you ever did see!

He’s getting so much better at walking! He’s starting to do it on his own now. I mean he’s starting to just decide himself he wants to walk instead of us getting him to walk between two of us. A few times today he use the door frame to get up and then walked from the play room to the office. I’m so proud of him. Right now it’s easier than crawling…there’s something wrong with his one wrist I think because when he crawls he doesn’t put any weight on it, but on his elbow. So he ends up looking really odd when he crawls, odd and off-balance. The strange this is he doesn’t cry when we take hold of his right hand. It’s obvious he’d rather us hold onto his left hand because he’ll switch if we grab his right, and he doesn’t put any pressure on it while crawling, but when we do take it, or we try to examine it he lets us and doesn’t cry. So I don’t know what’s wrong.

He’s becoming even more vocal now as well. At times he really sounds like he’s trying to hold a conversation. He also really likes the one bean-bag chair. He’ll walk over to it and fall onto it. Sometimes with a little jump. Of course he wants to do it because he sees big brother doing it. He’ll also jump on you if you’re lying on the floor. Laughing the entire time. He’s also starting to get the hang of kisses. He hasn’t got the smooching part yet, but he’ll lean in and put his mouth to your cheek. It’s all very wet, but you put up with it because it’s so darn cute. Bastien is usually pretty good with him. He has his moments when he uses a little more force than necessary, but for the most part he’s good. Except when he’s playing with the toys Sylvain got for his birthday and Sylvain will go to start playing with them. Then we tell Bastien they’re Sylvain’s toys and he counters back with ‘you have to share’. But if it’s someone else wanting one of Bastien’s toys if he doesn’t want to let you he doesn’t have to share. Or if Sylvain will do something with one of his toys and Bastien doesn’t like it, we have to remind Bastien that the toys are Sylvain’s!

I’m going to miss these boys….

Oompa Loompas, mermaids, and crazy-hips.

I really hope that title had you going ‘what?’.

I’ll start with the mermaid bit. I was going to write about this yesterday, but I forgot. Fortunately it happened again this morning so it was more firmly fixed in my memory. So Sylvain has this pair of one piece pj’s. In fact, he has a bunch, but I’m talking about a specific dark red pair. A pair he’s worn many times before. Yesterday, and this morning I picked him up from his crib only to find that both of his legs were in one pj leg. The effect was hilarious, just like a mermaid. I’m not saying that mermaids are a laughing matter, I just meant that it was so incredibly adorable and odd. Then he was squirming around on the changing area on top of his dresser. Which only intensified the image. Hilarious.

For his birthday Sylvain received a CD of songs that have actions. Adeline put it on this morning before I took Bastien to school. I was trying to help Sylvain with the actions a bit, but as I was also trying to keep him upright it didn’t work out too well. Bastien on the other hand already knows some of the songs and was getting right into it. At one point he was just dancing to the music. His hips were moving side to side. I know from my experience with my high school grad assembly (and other instances of trying to teach guys how to dance when they never really have before) that the biggest problem a lot of guys have when trying to dance (oh boy I’m generalizing) is the hips. I remember in choir in university they always had us loosen up a lot before singing and would have us move our hips around and the guys always had problems. Not Bastien. He’s a pro.

Sylvain was home today and  after he had eaten his lunch Adeline got out a little more for him and tried to see if he would eat himself. The thing is, whenever handed a spoon, Sylvain always puts the handle in his mouth. Always. This goes for toy spoons too! Eventually he gave up with the spoon and just started mushing about with his hands. I think it was carrot mush…it was orange anyway. I’m surprised non got in his hair, that was always a bit problem when he first started eating solid-ish type food. I don’t know if actually ate any of it, but he sure had fun playing with it. Adeline and I both got him on film. Yippee! Before he was cleaned up he could have almost passed for an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

And finally, tonight Adeline cut two eye holes in a sheet for Bastien and he wandered around ‘ooo-ing’ at us. I kept running away saying I was afraid of ghosts. He would chase after me and then pull off the sheet to say ‘it’s me, Bastien! It’s a joke’ before laughing the wonderful laugh of children who are having a fabulous time. And Sylvain is making great progress in his walking. Today he walked from where I was sitting (sort of near the window in the play room) to the opposite door, halted, walked about three steps to the shelving unit, grabbed a toy, and walked back to me all without sitting down. We’re so proud ^_^. He was a bit of a turd though, he only napped for an hour this afternoon. I took him with me to get Bastien. I took the long way there and back because it was such a nice day out. I’m still only using a hoodie and light (non-insulated) jacket – it’s not that cold here yet. It’s still getting up to about 15-17° during the day. Although, it’s a nippy 17°. All that fresh Fall air is wonderful though. Crisp. Gotta love it!

This little piggy…

This afternoon I finally got around to painting Sylvain’s piggy bank. I think it turned out really well considering my non-talent when it has to do with anything that requires hand to paper/etc. coordination. I took a bunch of pictures of the 2 piggy’s and will post them in the future.

Sylvain walked quite a bit today. Well, he walked a lot while holding a hand of someone, but he did quite a bit on his own as well. It will be cool if he’s walking before I leave.

Tonight Adeline had a bunch of friends over. Friends she’s had since she was 16. Dinner was a loud, boisterous affair and sounded like a lot of fun. I did manage to catch snippets of conversations, but you know how it is when many people are talking at once and all telling different stories – even in your mother tongue it’s hard to make all that out! Also, before he went to bed Bastien was SO hyped up. He was bouncing off the walls as they say. He didn’t have a nap this afternoon either. When I went to put Sylvain up to bed – maybe half an hour later, no more I don’t think – I had to go into his room to get Sylvain’s soother and I’m pretty sure he was completely out. I was afraid Sylvain’s crying would wake him, but he was gone for the night.

Kids grow up so fast…

I keep forgetting to mention something of crucial importance. Sylvain is now able to walk more than one step on his own! I think he managed 5 or 6 one time when I was there. Go Sylvain! Oh my goodness. I can’t believe he’s going to be 1-year-old soon! It’s crazy. He still only has the one tooth. But he’s ‘talking’ a lot now and laughing a lot. Oh boy am I going to miss those boys.

Bastien dressed up like a pirate today for school. Next week they have the week off, it’s the Fall Holiday. Bastien excitedly told us about how they made popcorn and had cake. Because they had a party he didn’t take a nap today. He fell asleep in the car on the way to get Sylvain. I thought he woke up a little when we got there, but he didn’t really. Half way home he woke up for real and said hey, Sylvain’s here! It was funny. For me anyway.

Bah, suddenly my head sort of fees like it’s floating. Odd. Meh. I think that’s about all I have to write about today. Oh wait, yesterday Sylvain saw himself in the mirror as he was walking towards it and he had this surprised/excited look on his face and his mouth was hanging open in a big ‘O’. He’s done that a few times lately that I’ve seen. He’ll hold up a toy with this awed expression. One thing I won’t miss; the hair pulling. I totally get why a lot of women cut their hair really short when they have kids. Not only can it be easier to deal with, but it’s harder for baby hands to get a hold of when it’s short!
